Helen always made me feel so welcome at her home on Cregagh Rd. When I referred to her as Mrs Hall, she was quick to respond, “now none of that, just call me Helen.” That was the first sign of her warmth and friendliness that lead on to good chats, and a bit of putting the world to rights. I felt as a young woman back then that Helen had a sense of herself that I admired. Partly because there was a playfulness as well as a gentleness to her too. It was also during those visits that I picked up on the fact that she loved animals. There was a smile and kindness to her voice when she’d lean down towards one of them as though speaking to a friend. During those chats it was clear Helen was very proud of her whole family. “He’s good on the piano isn't he?”.. referring to Robin trying to give me a singing lesson! What a funny and lovely woman who brought sunshine into the world. So glad to have met you Helen. 🌸
